International exhibition of prints and artist’s books in Rijeka — GraficaRi

Description

The Academy of Applied Arts celebrates its first fifteen years of existence by bringing together the best visual achievements of students and young artists in the field of contemporary graphic arts in Croatia and abroad. The competition builds upon the rich history of printmaking in Rijeka, which began with the establishment of the Rijeka School of Printmaking, whose founders and representatives, professors and students of the Academy and its forerunners, have won numerous awards and recognitions for their contribution to the contemporary graphic art.

“GraficaRi” exhibition was first launched in 2013, with the objective of promoting the art of printmaking of students and young artists from Croatia. Seventy-five authors with 159 artworks responded to the call. Finally, 41 prints of 37 authors were selected for the exhibition. Based on the decision of the expert committee, the authors of the awarded works were given the following commendations: the Special Commendation of the Jury, a cash prize and three Commendations of the Jury.

This year’s call for artworks has taken a step forward, onto the international level, with the intention of connecting students, young printmaking artists, the Academy’s alumni from Croatia and abroad. As part of the exhibition, there will be additional promotional activities and educational programs: printmaking workshops and manual binding of artist’s books.

The call for artworks and exhibition was launched upon the initiative of three young printmakers, Ivana Bajcer, Dajana Radoš and Sunčana Simichen. The exhibition is organized by the Academy of Applied Arts in collaboration with Kortil Gallery, with the financial support of the University of Rijeka, from the project for young artists and scientists.
